Whilst browsing the fantastic Marketingsherpa site, I came across a great article about distributing press releases online.

Online press releases are a great way, not only to increase brand recognition and increasing media coverage but the publishing of online press releases can also create valuable links to your website for the purpose of search engine optimisation and elevating your websites position on Google for keyphrases related to your business.

The Author of the Article, Daniel Durazo, reviews 13 No-cost Press release distribution websites and offers the following 3 tips for posting press releases on these sites:

“Tip #1. Craft quality content
If you’re not a PR pro or you haven’t distributed a press release over a wire service, then you probably should not go this alone. You don’t want to distribute something that simply looks unprofessional, says Durazo. A quality headline, subhead, and body test require skill and knowledge of the press release format.

Tip #2. Pay careful attention to whether these sites mask your email address.
Durazo generated unwanted spam at first because he didn’t insert a generic “info@” email address to the sites that published his personal email address on the press release web page.

Tip #3. Understand purpose of no-cost sites
The purpose of using the free distribution sites is to enhance search results for your company or client’s company. “I would not use this to try and get media coverage,” says Durazo. “This is great for search results.” Durazo was surprised to find releases he posted to free sites show up at the top of search results on the major search engines. ”

There is a simple and Free way to position your website on the first page of Google.

This is not one of those sales pitched with hollow promises of first page placement, nor is it a new and cheeky way of tricking anyone, especially Google into obtaining a high placement.

If you do not know of Google’s Local Business Center you should take a look……..Right after you have read this post.

Google Local Business centre is a free business listing that is presented as part of Google’s search results when people search for a business type i.e. web designer for a specific location.

So if you perform a search for ‘Internet Marketing in Bexley’ on Google, Local business results are displayed at the top of the first page. You can see form the screen capture below that the local business results are even displayed above the ‘organic’ or ‘natural’ listings on the results page.

As this is a service provided by Google itself, it is also a completely ethical means of placing the website for your business on the top of Google’s search results……and who does not want to be top of Google?

So enough talking. You will want to know how to do this! The good news is it is really simple and can be done in 4 easy to follow steps:-

  1. Visit the Google Local Business Center (you may need to alter your location at the top right of the page) and click “Add new business” button
  2. Complete the forms with all the details of your business relevant to your business listing. These include location, the selection of up to 5 business categories, opening hours and additional information such as areas, served.
  3. In order to confirm your location, Google will send you a postcard via post that ill include a verification code.
  4. Follow the instructions on the postcard to verify and publish your listing.

After following these simple steps you have every chance of achieving a top listing on Google for people searching for “[your product or service] in [your location, town or city]“.

And as if all this was not good enough, your listing will also be displayed in results on Google Maps for people searching for businesses.

Now don’t delay, you could have people searching right now for your product or service! Are you there?

I thought I would kick off this new blog with an introduction and an outline of the objectives of this site.

My name is Neil Goodger and I own and operate Bexley Internet Solutions, an Internet Consultancy business, assisting companies in marketing their business using websites and other internet related tools.

Over the last couple of years I have kept a close eye on an emerging area in improving websites known as web analytics.

With the improvements in website tracking tools, it is now possible to create a very good picture of how different segments are using a website and if used properly, the insights we get from this information can be used to constantly improve a website and its useabilty.

Web analytics anre being used extensively by Large corporations to ensure they are receiving the best return on their investment in their web channel of their business and the objective of this sblog is to share some of my knowledge and experience in web analytics to the benefit of smaller businesses.

As the owner and operator of a small business myself, I understand the many challenges a small business faces. The birth of web analytics enables small businesses to ensure the return on their investment in their companies online presence is maximixed as much as possible.

I hope to bring you lots of tolls, hints and tips as to what data is available for you to use, how to use it and what you should do with the findings you uncover. I also plan to support this blog with other media such as podcasts, webinars and seminars so keep checking back. My first real post will be available soon.
